Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers play a huge part in preserving history at Campus Martius and Ohio River Museums. If you have a love for our region's heritage, consider joining our team! Read through the opportunities below then contact our museum staff.
You don’t have to be an expert to lead activities. You bring the enthusiasm; we’ll provide you with thorough training and the opportunity to work with experienced volunteers.
Campus Martius Museum
Tour Guide -- Rufus Putnam House
Lead tours of the oldest house in Ohio for all ages, including school groups and tourists. No prior knowledge needed! New volunteers are paired with experienced volunteers to learn the house.
Activity Leader -- Pioneer Living Program
Teach students in grades 3 through adults early Marietta, Ohio, and U.S. frontier history following the Revolutionary War. Training provided to lead these activities:
- Calligraphy
- Putnam House/Pioneer food
- Candle dipping
- Pioneer toys
- Pioneer clothing
- Silhouette drawing
- Military defense
- Surveying
- Quilting
- Weaving
Activity Leader -- Other school and children’s programming
- Achievement Advantage Program—helps 4th graders review for State of Ohio achievement tests
- Fridays at the Museums
- Summer Programming
Ohio River Museum
Tour Guide -- towboat W.P. Snyder Jr.
Show school children and tourists how the Snyder worked. The Snyder is a National Historic Landmark and the last boat of its particular kind. If you don’t know your starboard from your port, that’s okay! We train and provide all the material you need.
Activity Leader -- School and Children’s Programming
These school programs for students in grades 5 & 6 supplement the teachings in Math and Science. Training is provided to lead these activities:
- Mussels
- River Explorers
- Locks and Dams
- Ohio Wildlife
- Fossils
- Geology
- Archaeology
